generally speaking ,we have our first meal in the morning of the day ,and I believe when you say breakfirst to a foreigner ,he will think you are saying the meal in the morning .
我认为你这个问题有点钻牛角尖了。breakfast指的是早餐，也就是早上起床后的第一顿。当然如果你下午才起床的话那就随便叫它什么都行了，在中文里面你这个问题同样存在，所以不必拼命咬文嚼字。
其本意是第一餐，如果下午醒来，仍然可以使用该词。因为英语中没有早饭一词，同样也没有午餐一词，只有正餐的说法。
