As Terry was passing Laura's door she wondered if she should try to talk to her again.The two women used to be good friends,but recently Laura had pulled away from Terry.“Well,she's had a bad time of it,” Terry thought."First her little girl died in a car accident.And then her husband left her.She has a right to be by herself if that's what she wants." Terry smiled suddenly when she beard a noise from within."Why,it sounds like a small child crying," she thought."But that can't be.It must be the TV."
The next day,Terry met Laura when she was picking up the mail and asked,"Do you have a child staying with you?”
"A child?No,no.There' s no child.I have to go " With that,Laura hurried off,but not before Terry saw the fear in her eyes.
Terry knew that something was wrong.She walked to Laura's flat and knocked on the door.Laura opened the door."Be quiet," she said."You will wake my little girl." The missing child was lying on the bed where Laura's child used to sleep.
