God has blessed human being with the ability of thinking, at the same time given us the torture of empty soul. If a human being thinks of nothing except food and bed, or in other cases women, then sooner or later he will find himself in a horrifying state of mind. He will feel that there is this huge hole in his mind and couldn't find any way to fill it, it would just get bigger and bigger, the fear would become deeper and deeper. He wouldn't know what happened to him, but I know.----the requirement of spiritual life.
When we talk about spiritual life, most of the times we mean lofty ideals, objectives, somehow, we all ignored the other side of human nature. Evil orientation could also be the spiritual life, criminals live on that. To put it in another word, spiritual life is just something people use to fill in the time and the hole of their thinking ability, good or bad, lofty or evil.
All in all, I believe this requirement of spiritual life is the side effect of human intelligence. Apes and monkeys sure do not need a fucking spiritual life.
