"No"回答的是'Are you sure..."的问题,'the colck will ring on time“是从句;可回答"Yes,I'm sure."或"Yes.It will."——注意后者的Yes后面是句号.上面的汉译不对.正确的汉译是:

yes译为“不”no译为“是的”的情况是有的,那是针对否定疑问句的回答的英译汉,例:
"The clock will ring on time,don't you know?"(——闹钟到点就响,你不知道吗?)
A1:"Yes,I do."(答1:不,我知道.)
A2:"No,I don't.”(答2:是啊,我不知道.)
——这个,中文习惯大家都知道怎么答;英文的不拐弯,更简单:肯定的就答YES,否定的就答NO.之所以说“英文不拐弯”(Yes后面肯定是do、will、am等肯定式,No后面肯定是don't、won't、am not等否定式),是因为中文“拐了弯”:先否定你的看法(不,……)然后说实情(我知道);或者先同意你的看法(是的,……)再说出实情(我不知道).这里,如果Yes不译为“不”而译为“是”,或者No不译为“是”而译为“不”,中文就讲不通了,可以自己试一下:)
