Thousands of years ago,the kings of Egypt had strong tombs built for themselves. They did this while they were still alive.Over these tombs they built pyramids. They thought that after they died, their bodies would be kept safe in these buildings till they could come back to life. They also hoped that the world would look on the pyramids as monuments (纪念碑)to them, and would remember them forever.

When you look at the pyramids ,all kinds of questions come into your mind. How did the Egyptians build them? How did they cup, carry and lift such big stones Each stone fits so well, yet they didn’t have our mondern machines!Scientists have studied the pyramids, but nobody can tell just how the Egyptians built them so long ago.
Inside the pyramids are the rooms for the bodies of the kings and queens. They hid lots of wonderful treasures there, too. But thieves have broken into the pyramids and taken away many of the treasures. They have even taken away the mummies.Today, some of the mummies are on show in museums in different countries. When the kings and queens had their pyramids built for them, they perhaps never thought that this would happen.
