Project leader Dr Iain Spears says despite the success of Wii and its motion-capture system,it is neccessary for the team to develop its own system to make sure the players could not cheat.
The system researchers built is based on a combination of sensors set on a controller they hold in each hand,a head band,and a chest pieces,LED lights on these items allow a computer system to keep an dye on the players movements The system being developed is a kind of shadow boxing against a computer opponent "The exercise will be high-intensity interval training ,which means brief periods of boxing followed by recovery periods," sys a co-researcher
"There is growing evidence that brief,high-intensity exercise of this type is healthy.We are developing and testing the exercise program,but we believe that a 10--15 minute period in total,three times a week,may be enough to benefit the players."
The project is aimed at a population that is generally unwilling to exercise,Spears says staff members are being looked for,and once they are employed ,work will start out on finding the first text subjects,If the tests prove successful the team plans to apply for more money to make a larger number of people go through them
