鸠摩罗什的这段话,是被学者最频繁引用的.其大概的意思是说,印度的佛经,十分重视诗体的声律之美,是一种适合咏唱的体裁;用于赞叹国王的功德及‘歌叹’佛德佛仪.但是把梵文翻译成当时的文字,由于两国文体的差异,虽然大概的意思还保留,但似诗非诗,似文非文,文章之美已荡然无存,而且不能与其法乐相配,读起来让人作呕.
