一个屠户傍晚归来,担中的肉没有了,只有剩下的骨头.途中有两只狼,紧跟着走了很远.
屠户感到很害怕,把骨头扔给它们.一只狼得到骨头便停了下来,另一只狼仍然跟着.再投,后面得到的狼停了而前面得到骨的狼又上来了.骨头已经没有了,然而两只狼像原来一样一起追赶.屠户处境非常危急,恐怕前后都有可能受到狼的攻击.环顾四周看见有麦场,场主把柴草堆积在里面,覆盖成小山似的.屠户便跑到那里靠在柴草堆上,放下扁担拿起刀.狼不敢往前,瞪着眼睛朝着屠户.
一会儿,一只狼直径离开,另一只狼像犬一样蹲坐在前面.过了一会儿,眼睛好象闭上了,神情很悠闲.屠户突然起身,用刀劈狼头,几刀便死了.
