Gases are the states of matter which are distinguished from the solids states by relatively low density and viscosity, relatively great expansion and contraction with changes in pressure and temperature, the ability to diffuse readily, and the spontaneous tendency to become distributed uniformly throughout any container, so they can be compressed easily.
2. A liquid expands more when heated than an equal volume of a solid.
A liquid is the state of matter in which a substance exhibits a characteristic readiness to flow, while a solid is a substance which has a definite shape and volume, whose density is much denser than a liquid. When a liquid is heated, each molecule can expand in its certain wider space to force the others around it to move outward so as to cause the whole liquid to turn bigger than before heating. compared with a liquid, the space between the molecules of a solid is closer to each other because of its density, so there is no enough room to expand itself freely.
