There are quite a lot of street sculptures in big cities, which show a kind of culture or reflect the change and development of a city, and very often different people have different understanding of the street sculptures.
Here we see one. The man who stands for the old generation is obviously a learned person, wearing old-fashioned glasses and clothes that date back to the beginning of the twentieth century. He is looking at the laptop in great curiosity, unable to figure out what it is. The girl, on the other hand, is totally different: she has long hair, wears a fashionable short skirt and is operating the modern device skillfully, leaving him wondering what she is doing.
The striking differences between the two persons perhaps show the rapid changes in people’s life in China, the great development of the times and the progress of civilization. But most important of all, the sculpture reflects the history and culture of the city and it’s a perfect combination of tradition and modernization.

A land free from destruction, plus wealth, natural resources, and labor supply — all these were important factors in helping England to become the center for the Industrial Revolution, but they were not enough. That ―something special‖ was men — creative individuals could invent machines, find new sources of power, and establish business organizations to reshape society.
The men who created the machines of the Industrial Revolution came from many backgrounds and many occupations. Many of them were more inventors than scientists. Officials at Boston College have made what may be a critical decision: they’ve stopped giving out new email accounts to incoming students. The officials realized that the students had already established digital by the time they entered college, so the new email addresses were just not being used, but, , the college will offer forwarding (转发) services.
Starting next year, freshman at Boston College won’t be given an actual email account complete with login and inbox, just an email address. This address, in the format of johnsmith@bc. edu will simply forward mail to the student’s already inbox, be it Gmail, Windows Live Mail, Yahoo Mail, AOL, or whatever else they may be using.
The college reached a smart decision after first looking into outsourcing (外包) their email to the cloud. While the Boston College decision may have been made for reasons more than anything, we can easily imagine this as being the start of a new trend.

Today’s students are digital immersed (浸润) in technology from the day they were born. It simply doesn’t make sense to give them yet another account to manage when they enter college.

In the end, we think the decision Boston College made could easily be the start of a new trend. We’re sure the students like it, too.
