近年到加拿大留学的中国小留学生，主要集中在一些私立的高中和大学预科，到公立高中的尚不多见。其主要原因之一是私立学校往往有专人在中国负责招生，而公立学校招留学生则往往在加拿大守株待兔。(但最好的私立名校不愁生源，一般不刻意招收外国留学生。)另一原因是私立学校规模小，政策比较灵活，容易针对学生个人特点来调整课程计划。私立学校适合学业成绩中等，或高年级甚至高中毕业后才出国留学的学生。

加拿大公立高中优势

但加拿大公立高中也有其优势，公立学校规模大，课程设置齐备。一位朋友的孩子十年级开始在安省一个只有一百多人的私立高中学习，一年半修完了该校十一和十二年级的所有课程，几乎每门课都是全班第一。十一年级后在该私立学校已无课可修，故转学到多伦多一所有名的公立高中。她最近两门SATII都考了满分，并在今年的加拿大奥林匹克数学竞赛上进入了全国前十名。现在正在准备考SATI，拟申请美国名牌大学。
