Dear guardians,
You must have known about the earthquake in Wenchuan County (It is to the northwest of Chengdu) of Sichuan Province, which is 7.8-magnitude at 14:28 of May 12th , 2008. Although the earthquake damaged Wenchuan county and its nearby areas, Luzhou City (It is to the southeast of Chengdu) has not been influenced much, up to now nobody is wounded and no houses were damage in Luzhou. This is because Luzhou is about 400 kilometers ( the straight distance) away from the epicenter Wenchuan, besides, no earthquake has ever happened in the history of Luzhou. You can check from the internet, TV and radio that Luzhou has not been mentioned in all the reports about the earthquake.

After the earthquake, the authorities of the college has put much attention to all the foreigners who are working and studying in the college, including the international students. In the night of May 12th, the students were evacuated to the open areas, just incase of any after-quake happens. The Department took effective measures and the officials were required to stay with the students in turns. We took care of the students and helped the students to learn about the earthquake, and paid much attention to their lives and property.

It is true that some after-shocks may happen in the following days, please understand that: 1.The center of the after-shocks is far away from Luzhou. 2. If there is any after-shock, it will be not be stronger that the 1st earthquake. 3. The government will inform everybody a head of time, and the students will be evacuated to the open areas immediately. 4. There are 12700 Chinese students studying on campus at present, we treat the international students in the same way as we treat them. 5. If the situation is hard and if it is necessary, we will immediately inform the students to go back home.

We can understand your anxiety, so we send our concern to you by this letter. At present, the regular studying and living are going on well on campus. So we hope that you will put your heart at ease, and believe that your children are safe here. We also hope that you will cooperate with the college and keep your children out of the unnecessary tension and concentrate on studying.
