Well,I'm strongly against Gun Control!Not only as a Police Officer but as a Citizen as well.
We have the Constitutional right as citizens to own firearms.We are but a few if not the only nation that has that right.The founding fathers felt strongly that all citizens should have firearms.So much so that the 2nd amendment specifies that it "Shall not be infringed" i.e.restricted.
As a Police Officer,I have no "Jedi" like mastery over firearms as opposed to anyone else.The problems that we have with firearms is the criminal use of them.Yes,there are tragic,accidental deaths that could have been prevented.But the same can be said for just about any accidental death.Life can be rough,get a crash helmet!
Those that are for gun control are mistaken or just flat out stupid in thinking that by passing a law that those the don't follow the law in the first place,will suddenly and magically start obeying the law and not have them or use them.Or the twisted logic that if you take away all guns then the criminals can't get them.Sorry,but loss of one of my freedoms shouldn't be a consequence to those that can't obey the law.It's like me telling people they can't drive their cars anymore and have to tke the Bus because some people can't obey traffic laws.
alimac,I'll try not to be too harsh but you do realize that if you are opposed to gun control that means that you don't want the ownership of them illegal or restricted.And can you tell me how you know for a fact that the guy in Houston was a racist?He was within his legal rights to shoot those two "idiots" as you called them.Try logic rather than emotion when forming an opinion next time!
gomanyes,it's easy to tell you why gun control doesn't work.One is that you CANNOT get a gun from a gun show without identifying yourself.Those guys selling guns at tables are licensed dealers and have to follow the same laws that a dealer that has a shop.This is simply a lie that gets used over and over by anti gun groups to scare people.
You claim the other countries are supposedly "safer" and had a drop in violent crime becase guns were banned.
When did this happen?The UK has had a surge in violent physical attacks as did Austrailia after both restricted gun ownership.So much so that the UK is now considering a ban on knife ownership now.Canada's gun registration program did nothing to stop gun violence but did manage to waste millions of taxpayer dollars.Canada has the same problem of gun violence by gangmembers that the US does.But because of the population difference,the numbers aren't as high as they are in the US.
