To test and analyze the chlorophyll,carotinoid and anthocyanin contents of leaves from prunus cerasifera (或purple - leafed plum)in different periods and ordinary green-leafed plum with spectrophotometry,and then to observe and record systematacially the changes of leaf colour of these two plants,here comes the results:from March to July,the chlorophyll,carotinoid and anthocyanin contents of leaves from prunus cerasifera overall increased,the changing tendency of chlorophyll a and b total contents are similar to the chlorophyll total content.The leaf colour of purple - leafed plum became darker and darker,which is due to the comprehensive effect of these three pigments.The leaf colour of purple - leafed plum has direct correlativity with the contents of the three pigments.There is also a positive correlation between green- leafed plum and chlorophyll/carotinoid.Chlorophyll and carotinoid play the most important role in changing leaf colour of green- leafed plum whose the anthocyanin content ,which gets limited influence on changing leaf colour,is no significant change.

Spectrophotometry was used to analyze the contents of 3 pigments (chlorophyll, carotenoids, and anthocyanins) in the leaves of purple-leafed plum trees(Prunus ceraifera cv. Pissardii; alias: myrobalan plum) and green-leafed plum trees. Results showed that, from March to July months, the 3 pigments in the purple-leaved plum trees increased over time. The increase patterns of chlorophylls a and b were similar to that of the total chlorophyll level. The increase of the 3 pigments darkened the color of the purple-leafed plum trees; the leaf color density positively correlated with the contents of the 3 pigments. For green-leafed plum trees, the levels of chlorophylls and carotenoids were primarily responsible for the leaf color, and positively correlated with the leaf color. Whereas the anthocyanins level did not change significantly in that time period in green-leafed plum trees; thus it had a limited effect on their leaf color.
