成为人家的兄弟是天生的,而与你知道不知道无关,所以应该用一般现在时,是are,然后与前面的didn't照应,变成用were。

have read 更强调是已经做过了,而过去式只是表示发生过此事,语气较落,可根据提问重点选择用过去时还是完成时。
had been译过来你“已经”是他弟弟,难道过去不是吗?你是他弟弟是一个客观事实,故用一般时态,不能用完成时
