Abstract:An experiment is conducted for improvement of expansive soils with HTAB in subgrade slope protection projects. The liquid and plastic limits, expansibility, mechanical strength and water stability of expansive soils are studied. The result of the experiment shows that liquid limit and plasticity index of expansive soils improved by HTAB are both reduced, the plastic limit is increased, the free expansion rate and expansive force are reduced considerably, the inflation rate is reduced, the mechanical strength and the bearing capacity are enhanced, and the water stability is improved. The HTAB method is comparatively more economical and simple for subgrade slope protection projects in expansive soil areas.
