light of hope to millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of
withering injustice. It came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of cap
tivity. But one hundred years later, we must face the tragic fact that the Negr
o is still not free.
One hundred years later, the life of the Negro is still sadly crippled by the m
anacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination. One hundred years late
r, the Negro lives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean o
f material prosperity. One hundred years later, the Negro is still languishing
in the corners of American society and finds himself an exile in his own land.

So we have come here today to dramatize an appalling condition. In a sense we h
ave come to our nation's capital to cash a check. When the architects of our re
public wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of I

This note was a promise that all men would be guaranteed the inalienable rights
of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It is obvious today that Ameri
ca has defaulted on this promissory note insofar as her citizens of color are c
oncerned. Instead of honoring this sacred obligation, America has given the Neg
ro people a bad check which has come back marked "insufficient funds." But we r
efuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt. We refuse to believe tha
t there are insufficient funds in the great vaults of opportunity of this natio
n.

riches of freedom and the security of justice. We have also come to this hallo

m. Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to
the sunlit path of racial justice. Now is the time to open the doors of opportu
nity to all of God's children. Now is the time to lift our nation from the quic

It would be fatal for the nation to overlook the urgency of the moment and to u
nderestimate the determination of the Negro. This sweltering summer of the Negr
o's legitimate discontent will not pass until there is an invigorating autumn o
f freedom and equality. Nineteen sixty-three is not an end, but a beginning. Th
ose who hope that the Negro needed to blow off steam and will now be content wi
ll have a rude awakening if the nation returns to business as usual. There will
be neither rest nor tranquility in America until the Negro is granted his citi
zenship rights.

A dream is somebody’s expectation for the future. A dream is somebody's design for the future on themselves' thought. A dream is to a man just as wings to a bird. On the contrary, a man with a dream is like a warrior armed with ambition, foresight and gallantry, daring to step into an unknown domain to make a journey of adventure. However, there is always a gap between dream and reality. we still remembered king’s loudly voice:“I have a dream that one day ......”, And from then on, all the Negro fighting for this dream. Although the discrimination has become better than before, Negro have not the really parity with others up to now, this is precisely reality.
At one time, maybe your dream is to study in Tsinghua University or Beijing University, as well you work day and night for this dream. But at last, you have not carried out it successfully, because you have come to Chongqing University. This is the very reality too. From above two examples, we can easily find that there is a gap between the dream and the reality.
Generally speaking, dream overtop reality, in this manner, we will receive buffet from reality. Face to inspect from reality above, what we should do? Someone may discard his dream, someone may change his dream. However, we can not lost sight of following truth. Conversely, if only your dream rooted in the reality, we may find that if the reality reaches the dream easily, following it, what we should pursue?
