没错,在美国不用bill,因为在美国,bill的意思是钞票的意思,如one dollar bill,ten dollar bill,hundred dollar bill.
在新加坡和其他欧洲国家,bill不是钞票,所以能用"can I have the bill please?"在英国,钞票是"pound",如5-pound note.新加坡用"dollar note"来命明钞票.
当然,bill还有其他意思,如人名,Bill Clinton,美国总统!
如果在美国你跟服务生说"Can I have the bill please?",他可能以为你向他讨钱呢!哈哈.

我不知道 check 到底是不是正确（既然这么多人都说是），是也只是俚语，最起码我的字典里没有，然后我也从来没听说过
什么foot the bill 还有 check 大概都是American-English
