Today,English is without a doubt the actual universal language,which can be understood almost everywhere among scholars and educated people as the world media language,and the language of cinema,TV,pop music and the computer world.While,as some people bring up their doubt that whether English can hold its status in the future or not,although many people think it’s hard to hold its status for a long time,there is actual evidence to indicate that the future status of English as the global language is assured.Opponents of English being the global language claim that this is a phenomenon of linguistic invasion."It is time to fight this disrespect of our language," says Mr.Rebelo,the author of a new bill designed to "promote and defend" the Lusitanian [Portuguese] language.As he states "People feel humiliated and offended by having to pronounce words in a language that is not theirs.” Because of this,opponents insist they should use the mother tongue rather than English.What’s more,in order to keep the language’s purity,the opponents oppose claims that they refuse to admit English as the global language.As what Rebelo says’ people cannot communicate fluently because of the abuse of foreign expressions in our language."
