In the 1950s,Ruth noticed that her daughter,Barbara,preferred to play with dolls that looked lije adults rather than babies. At that time,however, most3-D dolls were made to look like babies or small children.Realizing that there was a hole in the marketplace,Ruth suggested the idea of a 3-D adult-like doll to her husband,but the idea was laughed at.Mattel's directors told her that it would be impossible to create such a doll.
