fruit既可以做可数名词,也可以做不可数名词.

做可数名词,是在强调有多种水果时用；如：banana and other tropical fruits 香蕉和其它热带水果,There are kiwis , grapes,  Durian and many other unknown exotic fruits on the table. 桌子上放着猕猴桃、提子、榴莲和许多叫不上名儿的外来水果.

做不可数名词,是将水果作为一个集合名词,一个大类来看待,不特指哪一个,也不区分其中不同的品种；如：Fresh fruit and vegetables provide fibre and vitamins. Apple and pear are all fruit.

 

vegetable是可数名词,但是指蔬菜时,不用a vegetable；如：不能说Is potato 【a】 vegetable? 应该是Is potato vegetable?

a vegetable 的意思一般是指“植物人”
