自己写了篇 对比中国父母和西方父母 尤其在对于孩子自立性方面
Contrast Parents in China and the West
Generally speaking, children in China are not so independent as those in the west. The main reason which is responsible for this phenomenon might lie in different ways of teaching children between chinese and western parents. As a fundamental unit of educating children, family teaching plays an important role in the formation of children’s independence and capability. Some remarkable differences between parents in China and in the west are shown in aspects of study, everyday life and financing.
Chinese parents tend to administer their children’s study and tell them what to do, while western parents respect children’s own decisions. The former are stricter with their children’s study especially score, and may ask them to learn everything popular, such as English, soccer and MBA, whereas the latter may concern more about what their children have learned from study instead of mere score and may only want their children to learn what they need, such as Chinese, Kongfu and living skills. Thus children in the west learn to decide by themselves and choose to do what is suitable for and benificial to them, while children in China are accustomed to following others’ instructions without their own ideas.
Chinese parents also concern too much about children’s everyday life in comparison with western ones. This is typically demonstrated by our eating habit: children in China feel obliged to eat as much as they can, and some are even fed by their parents. A common thing you can see is that a grandma, holding a bowl, is trying to persuade the little grandson to eat something. Meanwhile in the west, children are free to decide what they like to eat and when they are stuffed, they can drop their forks instead of being coaxed into eating more, despite the fact that some are not allowed to drink coca-cola and eat too much candy for the sake of their health.
What’s more, in the aspect of financing, chinese parents are less strict than the western ones. Different from the strict policy about children’s study, chinese parents have a loose one as to children’s pocket money, which means they can get money as they like. In contrast, western children get pocker money regularly, and how much they get depends on their age and the salary of the family. Wanting to buy himself a camera or a MP3, a chinese child would ask their parents for money, and this kind of inquiry is usually satisfied, while a western child has to do something, maybe some chores, to make himself deserving of getting the money.
In a sentence, the significant causes that chinese children’s dependence can attribute to are the differences of parents’ attitudes towards study, everyday life and financing of their children.
