The diesel hikes are effecting not just illegal mines but also other larger operations and one estimate from a miner is that around 10mt/yr of Kalimantan production is under threat.One of the hardest hit is believed to be Gunung Bayan which has mine costs approaching $40/t FOB ship.This is around the level of current FOB prices for good quality bituminous material.
However,production in general is still booming.“Production has gone very well over the last month-better than I ever thought,” reports a miner,citing the delay in the start of the wet season in general and very good output levels at a few mines in particular,especially Katlim Prima.These producers have more production than they thought possible and are now chasing business around Asia offering very aggressive process to offload the excess.
