Work Experience

Nowadays, there is a growing concern over the issue that whether it is necessary for students to acquire work experience before graduation. When it comes to this question, various voices are rising in the debate. However, my answer probably tends to be positive. The reasons why I argue that perspective are as follows. On one hand, confronted with the extremely competitive job market, each of us should realize that it is crucial to satisfy the requirements of the society and make tremendous pains to overcome any difficulties. There is no doubt that we can enhance ourselves during the work experience to a large extent. On the other hand, as recognized to us all that genuine knowledge comes from practice. Education is to work what the arm is to the battlefield. Education itself cannot prepare us for the real-world challenges. What is needed for us is to put the learning into practice as far as we can. The ways to achieve the opportunities of getting jobs are kinds of diversity. As far as I am concerned, searching the career ads on the net and applying the exact one you prefer to in your particular field are one of the best ways.

Work experience

There was a very long time for my summer vacation, so I went out for a job. To reduce the heavy burden of my family and to get some training for myself, I went to a shopping mall to work as a salesgirl. As soon as I became a clerk there, there were many things for me to learn. The variety of products made me dizzy, especially while there were different kinds of models for one specific item. I was really a bit impatient at first, but sometimes there were foreigners coming to visit and I could make use of my English to practice my oral English by talking with them. What made me a little sad was that the customers were more likely to come and visit, only to find a project instead of investing in them.

I still remember the interesting experience.

That day, while I was counting goods, a 40-year-old woman came in and said to me: "hello". Although it sounded very strange, I gave her a greeting too. Then I looked at her very carefully and found out finally that she was a foreigner and she got blue eyes. Maybe she saw my confusion and she explained that she wanted to buy a door. I guessed she wasn’t an American or Englishman, because she was speaking English with accent. And I guessed right. She later told me that she was a German. But this did not affect our communication as she could express herself with her gesture and expression on her face. We negotiated about the price for the door. She wanted a best discount, but I was not authorized to offer any discount. So we had to wait for my boss to come. It was lucky enough that she was willing to talk with me for a long time. She did not feel boring, so I could make her my customer. After about an hour, our boss came back and I explained everything to him and he promised to offer a better price and he praised me for my English.

After that experience, I learnt not only to be patient to customers but also to express myself, when not understood, to my customers. And I surprising found, customers tend to think that they are dealing with a very kind and happy girl. And there is one thing I want to mention that if it was the first time to work, inevitably people do not know how to deal with the relationship among colleagues.

Because we are told that this society is too complex, we should be cautious while choosing someone to be a friend. Fortunately, I feel pretty good, and my experience is good. I was the youngest while working there, and people older than me usually treated me very kindly and they were respected by me.

Soon when I had to return school, I resigned my job. Before I worked there, I was very worried that I might offend people and I might get hurt from them, so I behaved myself very carefully and I was very depressed at first. Things turned out that I was worried too much and I not only got paid for my job, but also I made several good friends. This job will always be my fortune in my life, which taught me that there is more, much more than money and benefit among people, because there is one thing called friendship.

Therefore only by maintaining this balance can be more happy life.
