I can carry both suitcases.
Can you remember the war?
We could see the oil bleeding out from the joint.
It was so dark that we could see nothing.
I wonder if my long lost neighbor can/could still be alive.
Such things can/could and do happen.
If I could go with you,I should feel very glad.
You could have been more considerate.
Can/could I borrow your thermos?
Would John attend the meeting if he __________ 就是表示有可能的虚拟语气,所以只能选择 B.could.

B. could
can 与 be able to 都可以表示能力,但两者在用法上有点差异:can (could)表示主观能力,不表示意愿,它的将来时用will be able to; be able to表示主观意愿,强调要克服困难去做某事。例如:
1)My grandma is over seventy, but she can still read without glas...

--- Could I have the television on?
--- Yes, you can. / No, you can't.
He couldn't be a bad man.
