此题说的是考查强调句,可是为什么that 前可以放逗号?你也许会说这不是定语从句,但我觉得是啊.求分析?
还有一个问题就是为什么选B 而不选AD 我选的是A求高手分析原因

在这里what made matters 是主语从句.既然是句子就必须得有主语,所以what是代词,充当句子的主语,表示“更糟糕的事情”
如果你选it 的话,那么it 必须代指一个物,这里缺少代指的物,所以不能用it .
2.In the Middle Ages people believed it was the earth ,not the sun ,____the center of our planetary system .
“人到中年就认为是地球了,而不再是银河系的中心,太阳.”

强调句的结构是it was---that---.
强调句的特点是你把it was---that都干掉,句子仍然成立.
In the Middle Ages people believed the earth ,not the sun ,was the center of our planetary system .
选A的话,谓语动词就在that的前面,强调句只能强调一个,这里是主语.所以放谓语在前面就错了.若选D的话,那么believed后面的句子就缺谓语,也不符合句子结构.

还有，第一句话有问题，

我的个人观点是:
1.比"we lost our way in the desert"更糟糕的是"we ran out of water " 由what 引出.
2.that指示代词做主语,后面是一个完整的句子,所以that前可以用逗号. 因为说的是过去的"middle ages"所以要加was.

题2点有点更正，the Middle Ages 应理解为中世纪，而不是人的中年。
句中有几处插入句来混乱思维。直接缩为
the earth was the center of our planetary system.变为强调句就是
(it was )the earth (that) was the center of our planetary system.
