北京奥运开幕式(Olympic Opening Ceremony)
The world will be stunned by China's opening ceremony of the Olympic Games on August 8 in Beijing,The Sydney Morning Herald said on Friday.
In a story about the rehearsal of the Olympic opening ceremony on Wednesday night,the paper quoted Ric Birch,a chief adviser to the director of the ceremony Zhang Yimou,as saying that "The world can expect,of course,to be gobsmacked.
Birch,an Australian,has been involved in all the opening ceremonies since he cemented his reputation as a creative guru at the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984.
The story said the extravagant light show of the rehearsal also featured the inner shell of Beijing National Stadium,known as the Bird's Nest,lit in a vibrant red.
It added that Zhang Yimou has been trying to fit 5,000 years of Chinese culture into 50 minutes during the grand opening ceremony.However,weather is another challenge for the ceremony,the paper added.
SARS broke out in Beijing this spring.We had to stay at home during those days.I learned my subjects from Classroom on the Air on TV.I started to learn by myself.Every day I studied my new lessons on textbooks in the morning and did my homework in the afternoon.When I had some difficulties in study,I asked teachers for help through telephone or the Internet.
After those days I know it is important to learn how to study.I should work harder than before.

In February 2009, two bronze sculptures looted from the Old Summer Palace during the Second Opium War in 1860 were auctioned by international auction house Christie's. On 25 Feb 2009 the disputed 18th-century fountainheads — heads of a rat and a rabbit — were sold to a Mr. Cai Mingchao(蔡铭超), an adviser to China's National Treasures Fund, which seeks to retrieve looted treasures by foreign invaders during the Qing Dynasty, for 28 million euros as part of an auction of art works owned by the late French designer Yves Saint Laurent. The buyer has then refused to pay the sum bid, claiming that he was bidding on moral and patriotic grounds.China's State Administration of Cultural Heritage had condemned the sale of the two bronzes and said it would affect Christie's interests in the country, ordering tighter inspections of all cultural relics that the auction house seeks to bring in or out of mainland China.China's State Administration of Cultural Heritage had stated that the auction of the bronzes "goes against the spirit of relevant international conventions and the international common understanding that cultural relics should be returned to their country of origin."

Carina Lau to Play Emperor Wu Zetian
Hong Kong actress Carina Lau will star in Hark Tsui's new film "Di Renjie", which will start shooting in Hengdian, a movie and television city in eastern China's Zhejiang Province, next month.
The 43-year-old will perform the role of "Wu Zetian", China's only female emperor who lived in the Tang Dynasty. Veteran actresses Brigitte Lin Ching-hsia and Cherie Chung were also considered for the role. Two controversial ancient Chinese relics were auctioned off on Wednesday night for 14 million euros (17.92 million U.S. dollars) each by anonymous telephone bidders in Christie's sale of the collection of Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Berge in the Grand Palace of Paris.
According to Christie's, they have received 8 phone calls for "enquiries" before the sale. After the auction was launched, the competition was only conducted between telephone bidders, with no one in the scene raised for a bid.Christie's refused to disclose who were the bidders at a press conference afterward.
The bronze sculptures, a rat's head and a rabbit's head, were looted by invading Anglo-French expedition army in the 19th century, when the invaders burned down the royal garden of Yuanmingyuan in Beijing.
Li Huan, a Chinese student in France told Xinhua that the two bronzes are news for the French, but history for the Chinese. Earlier this night, some Chinese students in France voluntarily went to the Grand Palace, distributing sheets introducing the history of Yuanmingyuan and the Second Opium War in 1860.
